Chiral plasma instability and inverse cascade from nonequilibrium left-handed neutrinos in core-collapse supernovae

چکیده

We show that the backreaction of left-handed neutrinos out equilibrium on matter sector induces an electric current proportional to a magnetic field even without chiral imbalance for electrons in core-collapse supernovae. derive transport coefficient this effect based recently formulated radiation theory neutrinos. This generates strong via so-called plasma instability, which could provide new mechanism and stable magnetars. also numerically study physical origin inverse cascade energy magnetohydrodynamics including current. Our results indicate incorporating effects would drastically modify hydrodynamic evolutions supernovae, may be relevant explosion dynamics.

Neutrinos in Stochastic Media: From Sun to Core-Collapse Supernovae

Recent work on neutrino propagation in stochastic media and its implications for the Sun and corecollapse supernovae are reviewed. It is shown that recent results from Sudbury Neutrino Observatory and SuperKamiokande combined with a best global fit value of δm2 = 5× 10−5 eV2 and tan2 θ = 0.3 rule out solar electron density fluctuations of a few percent or more. It is argued that solar neutrino ...

Understanding Core-Collapse Supernovae

At the University of Arizona, we have a major effort to study core-collapse supernovae, neutrino opacities and transfer, multi-dimensional radiation hydrodynamics, pulsar kicks, and gravitational radiation from supernovae. We have developed a precision 1D (spherical) multigroup implicit Boltzmann solver, SESAME 1 [1, 2], using the Feautrier technique, with the tangent-ray method to achieve exce...

Non - spherical core collapse supernovae

Two-dimensional simulations of strongly anisotropic supernova explosions of a nonrotating 15 M ⊙ blue supergiant progenitor are presented, which follow the hydrodynamic evolution from times shortly after shock formation until hours later. It is shown that explosions which around the time of shock revival are dominated by low-order unstable modes (i.e. by a superposition of the l = 2 and l = 1 m...

Progenitors of core-collapse supernovae

Knowledge of the progenitors of core-collapse supernovae is a fundamental component in understanding the explosions. The recent progress in finding such stars is reviewed. The minimum initial mass that can produce a supernova has converged to 8± 1M⊙, from direct detections of red supergiant progenitors of II-P SNe and the most massive white dwarf progenitors, although this value is model depend...
